Hello Friends,

This week I tasted my first strawberries of the season....and boy, were they delicious!  Picking sweet red berries on a beautiful sunny day - and popping them straight in my mouth, it was lovely!

I can't wait for you to try them too!  One of the best parts of Spring, no doubt!

It's hard to believe that our season is about to begin.  We plan to start the second week of May. Tuesday May 9th and Thursday May 11th.  So much hard work has been going on behind the scenes since...well, January!  Planning for this year began in December as we were mapping out what to plant.  Starting organic seeds in organic potting soil in the wee days of winter and keeping them warm in the greenhouse.  Plowing fields, planting and praying for those tender plants and the families that we serve.  We listened to the feedback that we received from our members and have planted more broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, okra, green and red cabbage, English Sweet peas (one of my favorites), and snow peas for this spring....and of course, rows and rows of strawberries.  The romaine lettuce is gorgeous and the red leafy lettuce will make your salads pop with color.

The farm is just bursting with color, new growth and life!  It's just such an energizing time of the year.  From the plants to the animals - so much newness!  Some of the barnyard hens have new little chicks running around behind them.  It's nothing short of precious to see them scurrying around following after their mama.  There are new lambs out on pasture, new calves and even a couple of colts.  Yes, Spring is a marvelous time of the year!

Speaking of marvelous, we've added some new drop off locations this season.  Percy Priest Elementary in Forrest Hills is our most recent new-comer and we are excited to be part of this tight-knit community!  We are also thankful to be partnering with the Donelson-Hermitage YMCA this year and the Sumner county YMCA.  We love what the Y stands for and their dedication to community health and well-being - so it just makes sense to offer locally grown, natural produce too!  We look forward to building a strong community of support in these areas.

Each year we try and go above and beyond to support our members.  Last season we introduced the Farm Store, which was a huge hit.  We also offered the Anytime share for those that wanted to order on their schedule - with no commitments.  This year we are launching Home Delivery in Franklin and Mt. Juliet.  Depending on how this new adventure goes...we may offer more areas in the future.  I am super excited about our newest offering in the Farm Store!  In the past we have offered bulk meat orders to our members and community.  However, we realize that not everyone wants to buy half a hog or beef all at once.  This season, we are offering individual cuts delivered with our farm shares and store orders.  Add a pound of ground beef - or sausage from the farm store to your order and we will deliver it to your pick up location - or straight to your front door if you live in our home delivery areas.  Pretty snazzy!  My hope is that this will be another way that we can make pastured meats available and convenient to order and pick up within our community.  That's our bring the best of the farm to your family!

Looking forward to seeing all your veggie-loving faces real soon!

Feeling the Local Love,

New to the Farm Store this season is Mama Merrill's Elderberry Syrup.  This is locally produced and we are excited to introduce you to Mama Merrill....

Hi, I’m Ashley Merrill, creator of Mama Merrill’s Elderberry Syrup!  I have four children, and like many other crunchy mamas, I am always educating myself on natural, God-given ways to keep our family healthy! Years ago, I discovered the potent power of the elderberry and kept buying the pricey little drug store bottles when we were fighting an illness. Even though it worked wonders, there was definitely no way I could afford to use it as a preventive measure.  Being the stubborn redhead that I am, I wasn’t ready to give up. I became determined to make elderberry syrup for my family and make it even better! Over the course of two years, I developed Mama Merrill’s Elderberry Syrup signature recipe using a proprietary blend of powerful ingredients, which have all been proven to have significant positive effects such as reduced inflammation, less seasonal allergies, and greater immune function.  After much research and development, Mama Merrill’s Elderberry Syrup emerged and has become a necessity in the homeopathic arsenal not only in our home, but for many of our friends and family. One of my passions is to help people get and stay healthier, so now I’m bringing it to you!

Mama Merrill’s Elderberry Syrup is a liquid powerhouse of ingredients:

Organic Sambucus Nigra Elderberries- high in vitamin C and flavonoids & shown to have extensive health benefits; prevents & reduces cold & flu symptoms, anti-oxidant (cancer prevention), promotes regularity, lowers blood sugar, skin revitalizer, circulatory system protectant and more! Read what Dr. Axe has to say about Elderberries Here.

Raw Local Honey- eases allergy symptoms naturally.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar- with “the mother” (can it get any better than that?!)   Read about ACV benefits Here!

Organic Spice blend- containing cloves, cinnamon, and ginger- proven to aid the circulatory & immune systems

Turmeric- Scientists are discovering the power of Turmeric exceeds that of 10 commonly prescribed medications used to treat inflammation, depression, chronic pain, cancer and more. Read what Dr. Axe has to say about tumeric here!

No processed ingredients.

No preservatives.

I also developed Mama Merrill’s Spicy Elderberry Syrup containing a cayenne and pepper blend, which scientists have discovered intensify the positive effects of Turmeric! These ingredients combined are an especially effective knock-out to congestion & coughs. Read about the turmeric-pepper connection here.

Recommended “dosage” is 1-4 Tbsp. per day as a preventive health measure. This same dosage can be increased to once every 2-6 hours if you feel your immune system has been compromised. (not recommended for children under 2 years of age due to honey as an ingredient)

I trust you will enjoy & benefit from Mama Merrill’s Elderberry Syrup as much as we do in our family!

Good Friday Morning Friends,

We are getting ready to move our Happy Hens, Sheep and Goats to fresh pasture this morning and we are all just giddy over the beautiful weather.  Has Spring sprung?  Only time will tell!  We are wondering if our CSA season will set a new record and start sooner than ever before?  Any guesses?

This is always a busy time as we anticipate how many families will sign up for the 2017 season.  We are sending out emails, returning phone calls, hosting sign up fairs around town and trying to spread the word to as many as possible.  We are meeting with our farmers and discussing what we would like to grow for you this season.  Our greenhouses are packed full of all things Springy as we eagerly await the last frost and can transplant the tender shoots into the rich, dark soil.   It's an exciting time!

Farmhouse Nashville is committed to bringing your family only the very best.  Here is the latest email that we sent out this morning explaining our promise to you.....

Picking a farmer to grow your food can be a daunting challenge....there are so many choices available - certified organic, naturally grown, farm-fresh, non-certified organic, chemical-free. It can be a real task to sort through the websites and information to figure out who is growing what - and how? Most people have no idea who grew the baby carrots, celery and broccoli in their shopping cart. Yet, an increasing number of families are seeing the benefits of supporting a small farmer to insure knowing where and how their food is grown. Families are realizing that food trucked 1500 miles before it arrives on their dinner table is not a viable option when seeking nutrient dense, fresh-picked produce. Eating local, seasonal, fresh produce full of nutrients and void of chemicals is the optimal decision. As more choices become available, how do you sift through the information, the sales promotions, and the specific terminology to find a real, trustworthy farmer?

Farmhouse Nashville has taken the guess work out of the equation!  We have personally vetted the farmers that our members support.  Our promise to you is to be transparent, ethical and honest in how your food was raised.  And, we only work with farmers who choose to do the same! We may lose customers from year to year because we choose to remain faithful to our promise and not buy conventional produce just to keep the boxes full- or to add extra variety!  The produce that we select for you is fresh picked, local, organically grown and from the farmer we know and trust - week after week.  Farming is not an exact science, however, honesty certainly is!  If you are looking for an honest farmer who has your families best interest at've found it!  :)

Today is National CSA Day and we are happy to be supporting this nation wide event! Our desire is to see more and more families turn back to small, local farms.  We would love to have your support again this season!!

When you sign up Today - you will receive one of our brand new Veggie Lover Bags and $10 off your registration!

Hello Egg Lover,

Our hens have decided they LOVE laying eggs in this crazy weather.  Mild days and cold nights seem to be just their cup of tea!  Who would have known??  Our Eggs are normally $4.50 per dozen, but when you buy 10 dozen, that price drops to $3.50 per dozen!  Awesome news - right?

Please visit our Farm Store to order your eggs!  Hurry, this special deal is only available while supplies last!  We appreciate your support!!

Cheers to Healthy Eating,

Every year we strive to improve how we serve our families.  We listen to your feedback and try and make adjustments - tweak things here or there and do our best to ensure that your overall experience is positive.  We also realize that a CSA is not for everyone.  Using your farm share each week can be a challenge.  Eating produce that you may be unfamiliar with - or even eating with the seasons can be tricky.  Our Recipe page, Farm Chef Videos and Face Book groups are all designed with you in keep you inspired in the kitchen!

The Farm Store was a new addition to our CSA this season, giving you an opportunity to purchase more of what you love and add items to your Farm Share throughout the season.  We changed the sizes of the Farm Shares to give our smaller families, couples and individuals the option of purchasing a smaller sampling of the farm with the Half Share.

We continue to seek ways that we can improve our service to your family and deliver beautiful Farm Shares that enhance and nourish your family!

Please take our 2016 Survey and let us know your thoughts! We appreciate all feedback!!

When you complete the survey you will automatically be entered into our 2017 drawing to receive a FREE Full Share Membership.  We will also draw five names to receive a Free Farm Share and Pastured Eggs during the 2017 season!  Enter Here: Farmhouse Nashville Survey

Our Family Farm Day is tomorrow October 1st from 10AM- 4PM.  We are excited to invite everyone out for a fun day at the farm.  Please join us at Golden Rule Farm, 612 Shores Rd. Scottsville, Ky and come meet your farmer!!  Pack and lunch and come spend the day with us!

This is an informal day to see the farm, take a horse drawn wagon tour.  Pick some veggies - pull some weeds and enjoy a beautiful day on an Old Order Mennonite farm.  You will find our farmers, Thomas and Dinah Brubaker to be sweet, humble, hardworking people who desire to please their CSA members.  We hope that you can come visit us - stay all day or drop in for a time, either way, we would LOVE to see you there.

***Tomorrow is the last day to see the fresh sorghum being made at the mill.  We will be going over to watch this amazing process...truly from field to final product!  It is a spectacular process to see.

To our Weekly and Bi-Weekly Group B Members:

Due to the hot and dry weather, our Farmers have decided to skip next week's CSA Delivery (Week 20) to allow time for Fall planting and the Fall produce to mature.

We will offer a Makeup Week for the Weekly and Bi-Weekly Group B members affected by this change, the week after Thanksgiving. We will keep our regular CSA Delivery schedule that week. Tuesday Weekly and Bi-Weekly Group B members will receive their makeup CSA and Egg Share on Tuesday, November 29 and Thursday Weekly and Bi-Weekly Group B members will receive their makeup CSA and Egg share on Thursday, December 1.

Farmers are at the mercy of the weather. We experienced great weather this past Spring and the Spring boxes were bountiful. This Summer was unusually wet, which resulted in field rot, blight, and mold on some of the produce and was a hardship for the farmers. Now we are experiencing hot and dry weather, slowing down some of the growth on the farm, which is why we have decided to take a break next week. Our desire is to do what is best for our CSA Members and the Farm. We believe that taking this break will benefit everyone!

We anticipate seeing Green Beans, Tomatoes, Kale, Lettuces, Various kinds of Greens, Sweet Potatoes, White Potatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Brussel Sprouts in the Fall Shares. We will not be sending anymore Butternut or Spaghetti Squash until November.

We have Pastured Meats available to purchase this week in the Farm Store. We are offering Pastured Chicken and a few Half Lambs are still available to purchase.

Our Fall Pastured Hog Order is now OPEN! We have Whole and Half Hogs and we're offering our famous Holiday Pork Sampler Box again this year!

We appreciate your support this season! We love bringing the farm to your family and we're looking forward to an amazing Fall Harvest!
